Birds That Use This Feeder
Type Of Feed
I purchased this feeder for the quantity of seed it will hold and the option of splitting the offerings. It does a great job and I love how long I can go between fillings. The only thing I'd change is to make the catch tray at the bottom bigger or wider. I've learned not to use seed mix with large pieces, like peanuts or striped sunflower seeds, because they will be trapped in the bottom.
I love this feeder since it holds a larger amount of seed and also looks attractive amongst the trees. Due to the attractiveness to squirrels and their inquisitive nature, they twisted the feeder off its hanger and the screw top loop fell into the leaves and cannot be found. I have searched relentlessly. Is it possible to obtain another? Please advise. Thank you.
Hi Dawn, Thank you for leaving your review of the More Birds Giant Combo Sunflower/Thistle Screen Bird Feeder. We are so pleased to see your overall satisfaction with this product! We do carry a replacement screw top for this feeder, and you can find that here: https://morebirds.com/products/more-birds-replacement-screw-top-for-giant-combo-sunflower-screen-bird-feeders. Squirrels are so clever and relentless and it seems sometimes that they’re smarter than most other animals. One of the biggest challenges to feeding wild birds—our own challenge too—is deterring squirrels. We work on a daily basis to create quality products and cultivate good advice that will help us all win this fight. The key to successfully keeping a feeder squirrel-proof is its placement. Squirrels are agile and are able to jump up to 8ft horizontally and 4ft vertically. For this reason, we recommend that feeders be placed 8ft away from any structures that they can climb on so that they do not reach across to access the feeding holes. It can be helpful to trim back and prune any nearby bushes or branches within 12ft of a feeder. We also recommend that feeders be placed higher than 4ft off the ground, preventing the squirrels from jumping and grabbing onto the bottom. If you are using a hook or pole, we recommend that the hook have at least a 16in distance from the pole. Placing a baffle on the pole or having a caged feeder will also help to ensure squirrel-proofing success. Two days after putting this out one of the perch/feeding ports fell out and must have been swept away when our fall cleanup crew did the leaves so we couldn’t find it. I’ve tried to get a replacement and can’t find that particular part. Feeder is worthless now because the seed just flows right out! For the price I should be able to find replacement parts. Very unhappy and would not recommend this feeder.
Hi Mary, Thank you for your review of the More Birds Giant Combo Sunflower/Thistle Screen Bird Feeder. I am sorry to hear that one of the ports fell out of your feeder, just two days after being hung up. That sounds like a manufacturing defect, so our Consumer Care Manager will be reaching out directly to discuss our options for you. We do not carry every replacement part for every one of our feeders, so I do apologize for the inconvenience. Please look out for an email from our Consumer Care Manager. Thank you.
Hello, I bought this feeder as it felt very strong and durable. It is not cheap so I figured it would do a great job. Unfortunately, it appears that because of its perforated seed dispenser, when it rains all the seeds become wet and they rotten or even germinate inside the dispenser. It is extremely high mainetance and is very costly due to the huge waste of seeds......I wouldn't recommend it to anyone....
Hi Annie, Thank you for leaving a review of the More Birds Giant Combo Sunflower/Thistle Screen Bird Feeder. We are sorry to hear that you are dealing with wet seed in your feeder. It is always best to bring your bird feeders inside when there is inclement weather, and at night to avoid larger critters like birds and deer are out and looking for a nighttime snack. Hanging a feeder several inches under a roof or awning would help, as well as installing a baffle above the feeder, which would also act as a squirrel proofing mechanism too! We actually have a blog post that talks about protecting your feeder from rainstorms, and you can find it here: https://morebirds.com/blogs/news/5-ways-to-protect-bird-feeders-from-rainstorms We hope this information is helpful and we hope you are able to enjoy your Giant Combo Bird Feeder from now on. If you have any additional, questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service Department at 1-800-352-9164, and any one of our Customer Service Representatives would be happy to assist you!
