Yah, seed trays are supposed to catch seeds spilled or discarded at the feeder. This tray does that and more. It allows larger birds (grosbeaks) to access the feeder (at the bottom port) and catches the seed debris (and bird droppings) keeping it from accumulating in a pile under the feeders. I keep the seed debris to a minimum by using only hulled sunflower (no mixes). I don't want to encourage birds to forage for food amongst the bird droppings. It is also easy to remove for weekly cleaning cleaning and it fits in my dishwasher so I can sanitize it. My classic Droll Yankees tubes are like the energizer bunny - they don't wear out (unless the bears take an interest in them). This tray is an excellent product!
This tray has greatly helped with reducing seed waste from both my B series feeders. My flock of Gold Finches create quite a mess as they toss things about but much of the seed is captured by this tray. Then the Mourning Doves land on the tray and can feed as if the food were already on the ground; it's a perfect size for them. Highly recommended!
Outstanding! Just ordering two more . . . . my squirrels like to lay in the tray!
