Cleaning: Dirty bird feeders spread disease. We recommend cleaning your feeders weekly, or monthly at a minimum. Do not put your feeder in the dishwasher as the high temperatures can permanently damage the feeder parts. Clean your feeders outdoors with a large bucket, and always wear gloves when cleaning. Soak your feeder in a 9:1 solution of water and bleach for 15 minutes. Then use a bird feeder brush to scrub the feeder with dish soap and water. Refill when completely dry.
2 Year Manufacturing Warranty: Register your product online here. Once you register, the Forever Promise covers all feeders, accessories and components from manufacturing and materials defects for 2 years or 24 months from date of purchase. Droll Yankees will repair or replace, at its discretion, any manufacturing defect in these products free of charge. The Forever Promise does not cover damage through normal wear and tear, weather, or bear, raccoon or other animal damage.
Lifetime Squirrel-Damage Warranty: If your feeder is badly damaged by squirrels, to the extent that the effectiveness of the feeder is compromised, The Forever Promise also includes a lifetime warranty against squirrel damage on all our products.
Birds That Use This Feeder
Type Of Feed
Steer clear of this feeder!
I bought this a few months ago at Country Max to replace my other tube feeder that had just gotten worn out. Initially I didn't like the fact that there are only 3 perches instead of the usual 4 that could have easily been added towards the top, so less birds can feed at one time on this feeder. But the deal breaker is that somehow, water gets into the seed during heavy rains. I've had 2 whole feeders' full of seed (and as everyone knows, it is very expensive) ruined by water & had to clean it all out, dry out the feeder, & then refill it. The only thing I could see where this could possibly happen is at the bottom, which, by the company's description, has a "threaded base", so it's possible that water can seep up through those holes. When washing out the ruined seed, water will freely pour out the bottom of the feeder. Whether or not this is a factory defect, or a defect in my feeder alone, I don't know, but I do know that I wasted my 35 dollars and have to buy a different (hopefully better) feeder. And this is made in the USA.....very disappointing.

Very disappointed with the design of this feeder. Holes way to small for birds to access thistle seed and have to contort themselves to try and get seed. The bottom perches are totally worthless. What were they thinking when designing this feeder. Been out for weeks and although they try, they give up after a few minutes of not getting seed. Not worthy of the Droll Yankee name.
Hello Chas, Thank you for your review on Droll Yankees® New Generation® Yellow Thistle Finch Feeder, 1 lb. capacity, 15 in. The holes aren't too small for finches which tend to be the ones that visit thistle feeders. The birds can pull thistle through a nylon finch sock which has much smaller openings. Birds are creatures of habit, and it can take them days or even weeks to use a new feeder. There is something new in the yard that they are not used to, and they need to warm up to it first. We suggest temporarily removing other feeders in the area so that the birds will be encouraged to use the new one. We hope that the birds begin to use the feeder soon! Disappointed. Birds having a difficult time accessing the seeds, and fly away
Because the perches for this feeder do not face the seed ports, and are very small, my local birds can't feed without sharply twisting their bodies. This looks uncomfortable and awkward, and the birds just can't land. They flutter around the port, because they can't get a grip-- then just fly away and not return. My previous feeder had larger u-shaped perches, so birds could comfortably face the feed port. and it was always busy. Also, the sides of this feeder are smooth, so birds can't get a grip except on the very short perches. Looking for a better design now. My $35 spent on this one was wasted.
Hi Bob, Thank you for your review of the Droll Yankees® Classic A-Series Silver Sunflower Bird Feeder, 1 lb. capacity, 20 in. We are sorry to hear that your birds have not adjusted to the new feeder yet. Based on your description of the smooth sides, we assume that the previous feeder you had may have been a thistle feeder, which would allow birds to cling to the sides to feed. This feeder is a classic tube feeder, so the side will be smooth and feeding is designed to happen at the perches. Most tube feeders have this style perch, and birds are able to feed from them pretty easily. We think your birds may just need some more time to get used to the new feeder in your yard. Birds are finicky creatures so it can take sometimes weeks for them to become comfortable. You can also make sure to be serving a popular seed, like black oil sunflower, as this will help attract them as well! We hope this helps and we hope the birds start to use the feeder too! The shipping was fine. Birds don't seem to like the feeder.
