Cleaning: Please! For the sake of the birds, keep your feeder clean! Dirty feeders spread disease. We recommend disinfecting your nectar feeders every three to five days, or more frequently if you notice your nectar has become cloudy. Soak all parts in a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water. Use a bird feeder brush to brush away grime inside the feeder.

What is wrong with these feeders?????

These are beautiful feeders and I was impressed when I purchased them last September. Unfortunately they are going out into the trash and I'm out over $40. I have been feeding hummingbirds for decades. I practice impeccable maintenance of my feeders with brushes, 7th Gen dish liquid, and hot water at every refill, minimally every other day and daily when weather is warmer. I boil my carefully measured sugar water for a full minute. Yet these are the first and only feeders I've ever used that grow mold within a day. This has never happened before in my feeders. I even used the dishwasher but they still grew mold. I am simultaneously using several HummZinger feeders without any mold issues. I cannot recommend this product and I hope you figure out what the problem is because these are lovely and durable. But safety of the birds is paramount.

Hi Marie, We are sorry to hear you are dealing with persistent mold on your hummingbird feeder. If mold or debris is present, we recommend using a diluted bleach solution to wash the feeder, rinse well and let dry. This should help kill the mold, more so than soap. You will also want to make sure your feeders are drying out completely before being filled with nectar and hung. The sweeter the nectar solution, the more opportunity for mold to grow as well. We also always suggest letting your nectar cool completely before filling your feeder. Based on your experience, you most likely know these things already, but we also feel the need to mention them just in case. We have shared this with our product development team so they are aware and can look into it further. Our engineer did explain that if the feeder is completely clean, plastic doesn't have any natural ingredients, so there's no food source for the mold to grow. The feeder itself is either dirty or what is being put into the feeder has bacteria in it.
