Placement to deter squirrels: The key to keeping a bird feeder successfully squirrel-proofed is the placement. Place your bird feeder 4 feet from the ground and 8 feet from anything a squirrel can jump from. When hanging from a pole by a hook, it is recommended that the hook have at least a 16” distance from the pole. Placing a baffle on the pole or having a caged feeder will also help to ensure squirrel-proof success.
Cleaning: Dirty bird feeders spread disease. We recommend cleaning your feeders weekly, or monthly at a minimum. Do not put your feeder in the dishwasher as the high temperatures can permanently damage the feeder parts. Clean your feeders outdoors with a large bucket, and always wear gloves when cleaning. Soak your feeder in a 9:1 solution of water and bleach for 15 minutes. Then use a bird feeder brush to scrub the feeder with dish soap and water. Refill when completely dry.

Birds That Use This Feeder
Type Of Feed
Squirrels can no longer get to the seeds.
I love this feeder. It has been up for about three months and I am no longer refilling it every other day. It is well made ad certainly well worth the cost. I also bought the squirrel guard which is very well made and I am sure it will last longer than the less expensive ones. I am sure the squirrel guard has helped, but the combination has fixed our problem.
Holds a lot of seed
Birds seem to like it. It holds more seed than I expected.
Great If you have squirrel issues
This is our second Squirrel-x feeder. The first one was so successful deterring squirrels that we decided to get this one to replace a different brand. The squirrels figured that one out! I watched the squirrels try to get seed out of the Squirrel-x and they give up after just a couple tries.
I would have been satisfied with slowing down and/or discouraging the squirrels, but this feeder turns out to be both squirrel and raccoon proof! Awesome! Will definitely buy again.
Top is funky to get open but overall is an excellent bird feeder
