Birds That Use This Feeder
Type Of Feed
Thought it would deter black birds but it does not
Hi Carol, Thank you for your review of the Squirrel-X X1 Squirrel-Proof Bird Feeder with Spring Loaded Perches. Yes, this feeder is designed to help keep the squirrels away, so unfortunately that does not include black birds. You could try offering safflower seed in the feeder. Black birds do not like that type of seed. If you have any other questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service Team at 1-800-352-9164. Thank you for flying with our flock!
Good feeder at keeping squirrels away. Jumped too soon at buying it from the U.S. By the time I paid the exchange and the brokerage fees from U.P.S. the cost was almost $100 Canadian. Discovered later that the same feeder is sold at Canadian Tire for $40.
This is my 3rd bird feeder from this company. Squirrels are totally frustrated by it. Our back yard is a forest,so there are many bird species loving our deck.

My birds and I really like this feeder. I liked it so much I bought two. The squirrels have really tried to get in there but the birds throw enough on the ground to keep them happy. I did have squirrels try to chew the wire hanger. I had to wrap it with electrical tape to keep it from fraying more. I've cleaned them and have no problems putting them back together. Unfortunately the other day I found the bottom broken off the feeder. The plastic broke around the screws. I'm not sure if it was a squirrel trying to get in that did it because they do hang on it. The ports do get clogged up, especially after we had rain. All in all I am pretty happy with this feeder besides a few glitches.

I've had my Squirrel-X™ X1 Squirrel-Resistant Bird Feeder for a little over 2 years and I love it!! I've always enjoyed bird watching and feeding them gives me great joy! I have 4 grandchildren who also live with us and they love finding birds at the feeder. They get so excited and it always brings a smile to my face to hear 1 or more of them squeal with delight. I'm a Breast Cancer survivor of 18 months and my husband and I bought this to help me take my mind off 'things'. It sits outside my bedroom window and I can watch over 15 varieties of birds to include Painted Buntings! I started out with 1 pair of Cardinals to 5 breeding pairs who come now, along with nuthatches, house wrens, small and medium woodpeckers, yellow bellied sapsucker and so many more all possible because this is such a great feeder! It's been a great squirrel proof feeder until today. Just today I saw 1 of 20 different squirrels hanging by his back feet on the hanger wire and munching out on my birds feed. I have a squirrel feeder set up just for them but this seed must be really special. Anyhow, I'm going to find a baffle to add at the top. Right now I have a 12' round plastic lid with a large hole in it acting as a top baffle. At first I found cleaning it a challenge until I found that 'magic little spot' where the spring fits. Then it was a breeze. It is time consuming with all the nuts and bolts, but if that's what it takes to keep those fuzzy buzzards out of my bird feed so be it. This is my 3rd bird feeder from your company and I love the quality and the workmanship! Keep up the good work and thank you for a quality product.
