    No good

The squirrels were in the feeder within hours of putting it up. The dome does not keep them out. they sit in there and eat all the food. Very disappointing.

Hello Mary, Thank you for contacting Droll Yankees. I am sorry that you’re having no success at all deterring squirrels from your feeders. Squirrels are so clever and relentless and it seems sometimes that they’re smarter than most other animals. One of the biggest challenges to feeding wild birds—our own challenge too—is deterring squirrels. We work on a daily basis to create quality products and cultivate good advice that will help us all win this fight. I can completely sympathize with your squirrel frustration. My goal is to help restore your faith in our products by offering you some squirrel-proof advice. The key to successfully keeping a feeder squirrel-proof is its placement. Squirrels are agile and are able to jump up to 8ft horizontally and 4ft vertically. For this reason, we recommend that feeders be placed 8ft away from any structures that they can climb on, so that they do not reach across to access the feeding holes. It can be helpful to trim back and prune any nearby bushes or branches within 12ft of a feeder. We also recommend that feeders be placed higher than 4ft off the ground, preventing the squirrels from jumping and grabbing onto the bottom. If you are using a hook or pole, we recommend that the hook have at least a 16in distance from the pole. Placing a baffle on the pole will also help to ensure squirrel-proofing success. If you make sure to properly place any of our squirrel-proof feeders, I am confident that you will start having success in deterring the squirrels. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please call our Customer Service Department at 1-800-352-9164 and any one of our Customer Service Reps will be happy to assist you. Our hours are 7 am - 4:30 pm Mon-Fri (EST). We hope this helps you get back to feeding birds and thwarting squirrels!

Been using the BTF for 25 years now. Birds love it, squirrels get frustrated because they have not been able to get into it yet. Works just as it should. Very happy with it.

This bird feeder was NOT squirrel proof. I had squirrels unhooking and knocking the tray out and onto the ground after one day. Finally I had to bend the hooks together to keep this from happening. Then the squirrels started to twist the feeder from the chain above. Eventually, it fell apart.

At last a bird feeder really squirrel-proof. They've been trying to get hold of the seeds for several weeks now and they have been unsuccessfull to my pleasure.

I offer only black oil sunflower seed here - Central Texas. I had worked a B7 Classic with a big dome cover for 25 years plus. Guessing I ran 4,000 pounds (plus) of black oiled seed thru that same tube over that span of use... Recently purchased a Big Top - with extra perch. it looks very cool hanging from the branch of a Live Oak Tree. The additional perch seems a bit expansive and squirrel friendly. Is there a smaller - more compact option (less diameter). It looks Squirrel Invitational. I can always remove the additional perch BT Perch - if the squirrels get onto it. Thank You. Just Wondering . ..

Hi James, Thank you for contacting Droll Yankees. Although we offer several other platform feeders, the Big Top Feeder is the only squirrel-proof option in that style. The key to successfully keeping a feeder squirrel-proof is its placement. Squirrels are agile and are able to jump up to 8ft horizontally and 4ft vertically. For this reason, we recommend that feeders be placed 8ft away from any structures that they can climb on so that they do not reach across to access the feeding holes. We also recommend that feeders be placed higher than 4ft off the ground, preventing the squirrels from jumping and grabbing onto the bottom. If you are using a hook or pole, we recommend that the hook have at least a 16in distance from the pole. Placing a baffle on the pole or having a caged feeder will also help to ensure squirrel-proofing success. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please call our Customer Service Department at 1-800-352-9164 and any one of our Customer Service Reps will be happy to assist you. Our hours are 7 am 4:30 pm Mon-Fri (EST). We hope this helps you get back to feeding birds, not squirrels!
