Cleaning: Dirty feeders spread disease. We recommend disinfecting your nectar feeders every three to five days, or more frequently if you notice your nectar has become cloudy. Soak all parts in a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water. Use a bird feeder brush to brush away grime inside the feeder.

    Orioles Don't Like This Feeder

We have many orioles, but they did not like this feeder. They would land but not get any nectar. We had to shake the feeder hard to get the nectar to even fill up the base. The birds quit coming. Today we put our old one back out, and they returned and are drinking. We had high hopes for this feeder, but if our orioles won't use it, we just can't put it out.

Hi Michael, Thank you for your review of the Droll Yankees Classic Oriole Feeder. We are pleased to hear you are enjoying your feeder. We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with our shipping policy. We verified that your order has UPS Ground chosen as the shipping option, not UPS 2 Day. We have been experiencing a lot of delays in our shipping process, so we currently do not even offer any expedited shipping options on our site, as to avoid not being able to guarantee those more expensive options. We also have a banner on the website, explaining we are 7 days delayed currently, to help inform our customers of these delays up front. We do apologize for this, however this is an issue affecting almost every retailer in every industry currently. We hope things will eventually resume to normal and we appreciate your patience with this process. If you have any other questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service Team at 1-800-352-9164. Thank you for flying with our flock!

    I don't think it works

We bought this last year and put it out in the spring when the orioles showed up, but none of them could figure out how to get any nectar out of it. I think the nectar level is too low, and the bee guards are too restrictive and confusing. I tried tilting the feeder to get a higher fill level in the base, but as soon as the weather cooled off, the nectar was ****** back up into the glass bottle, and the nectar level went back down. We just abandoned it for the rest of the summer because it was so unsuccessful. This year, we're trying it again. My husband drilled away some of the plastic to make the holes in the base taller so that more nectar can fill the base. The level is slightly higher, but not much. So far, the orioles are ignoring the feeder. Even the hummingbirds can't figure out how to use the feeder, which is pretty strange because they use our other oriole feeder fairly regularly. They don't care that it's orange and not red. I think they can't figure out where to stick their beaks. If any birds figure it out, I'll come back and try to update my review. It's too bad that the feeder isn't working because it's very pretty and solidly made. Maybe the base reservoir needs to be smaller and shallower and the bee guards need to be a contrasting colour?

Hi Susan, Thank you for your review of the Droll Yankees Classic Oriole Feeder. We are sorry to hear that the Orioles are not using your feeder. The nectar level should fill up about half of the basin. Hummingbirds most likely will not use this feeder as the ports are not designed for their use. It sounds like there may be something not right with the nectar in the feeder. We would suggest cleaning it very well, with a diluted bleach solution, to ensure all bacteria is killed, and then filling with very fresh nectar. Depending on where you are located you will want to change the nectar every few days or more depending on how hot it is. We hope this helps, and if not, let us know.
