I have two peanut feeders that I have had for about 20 years. They are the older design that uses the aluminum purchase rod to hold the mesh tube in place. I no longer try to keep the squirts away from the peanuts. They won. They stay away from the house and they share with the blue jays, Wood peckers etc. I love the quality of the droll yankees products and their service. I also have several other types of Droll yankees feeders including the Flipper. The Flipper Is filled with sunflower Seed harts and is at least 10 years old and Is a great deal of fun when the new crop of squirts try it out.

I have 2 of these feeders which were purchased 10- 15 years ago. They finally are falling apart after constant use all that time. My feeders must be a previous design, since the mesh is connected to the base only by the metal perch which slides through the mesh and base. One of the perches has gone missing, so now the base will not stay on the feeder. The other one is now loose, and the perch slips out of place, currently hanging most of the way out, so I am in danger of that one falling apart as well. I looked for replacement perches and don't see them in parts. The mesh for both has been pulled on by squirrels I presume, and probably needs replacing as well. What do you recommend? I love having the peanuts, as we constantly have all sorts of birds enjoying them.

I've had this peanut feeder for several years. I have it located hanging from a pole system that has 4 arms, about 6 ft off the ground, AND A BAFFLE. I did see a squirrel on the feeder once; never figured out how it got there. This comment is about the wire mesh which is borderline sturdy, so some of the wires near the bottom have come loose. I tied them down with wire, but that is temporary. I will call on Monday Nov 11 or Tues Nov 12 asking for a replacement wire mesh

Hello Don, Thank you for contacting Droll Yankees. Squirrels are so clever and relentless and it seems sometimes that theyre smarter than most other animals. One of the biggest challenges to feeding wild birdsour own challenge toois deterring squirrels. We work on a daily basis to create quality products and cultivate good advice that will help us all win this fight. Although this is not a squirrel-proof feeder, Id be more than happy to offer some squirrel-proofing advice. The key to successfully keeping a feeder squirrel-proof is its placement. Squirrels are agile and are able to jump up to 8ft horizontally and 4ft vertically. For this reason, we recommend that feeders be placed 8ft away from any structures that they can climb on so that they do not reach across to access the feeding holes. It can be helpful to trim back and prune any nearby bushes or branches within 12ft of a feeder. We also recommend that feeders be placed higher than 4ft off the ground, preventing the squirrels from jumping and grabbing onto the bottom. If you are using a hook or pole, we recommend that the hook have at least a 16in distance from the pole. Placing a baffle on the pole or having a caged feeder will also help to ensure squirrel-proofing success. The Lifetime Warranty covers defective parts and squirrel damage. Just like everything physical, after a while, normal wear and tear will begin to take its toll on a product. This wear and tear is not due to the part having a defect in materials or workmanship, but is due to the inescapable fact that products do wear and tear, and after a long while, products will not be in as good shape as when originally purchased. Our hours are 7 am 4:30 pm Mon-Fri (EST). We hope this helps you get back to feeding birds, not squirrels!

I bought a Droll Yankees at a local feed store, I went to the extra expense of buying a galvanized threaded pipe to mount it on as well as a ****** to thread the pipe into, the ****** made for easy mounting to my deck. The feeder held the peanuts and offered birds opportunity to feed. It also gave the Squirrels ample opportunity as well, Squirrels are very good with their teeth and made short order breaking the Stainless steel mesh and bail wire off the base of the unit. I didn't care to go through the warranty process, so I morphed the more durable top and bottom of the Droll Yankees with another makers center area I had salvaged which was much more substantial than Stainless steel mesh and bail wire on the original. Now it is truly Squirrel proof, I have enjoyed it for many years now trouble free, Squirrels can't break in. The one I have is maroon. Hope this is helpful.

Hello Mike, Thank you for contacting Droll Yankees. I am sorry that you were having no success at all deterring squirrels from your feeders. Bought this from a local hardware store, I am very pleased with this so far. Overall design is very good with providing the birds to peck away at the peanuts.
