Cleaning: Please! For the sake of the birds, keep your feeder clean! Dirty feeders spread disease. We recommend disinfecting your bird feeders once a month in winter and more often in hot and humid weather. Soak all parts in a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water. Use a bird feeder brush to brush away grime inside the tube. Then remove any hardware and clean with a solution of mild soap and water, rinsing thoroughly. Refill when completely dry.
2 Year Manufacturing Warranty: Register your product online here. Once you register, the Forever Promise covers all feeders, accessories and components from manufacturing and materials defects for 2 years or 24 months from date of purchase. Droll Yankees will repair or replace, at its discretion, any manufacturing defect in these products free of charge. The Forever Promise does not cover damage through normal wear and tear, weather, or bear, raccoon or other animal damage.
Lifetime Squirrel-Damage Warranty: If your feeder is badly damaged by squirrels, to the extent that the effectiveness of the feeder is compromised, The Forever Promise also includes a lifetime warranty against squirrel-damage on all our products.

Type Of Feed
This is the 4th Droll feeder I've bought. The others are durable and very easy to disassemble for cleaning. With this one, the 2 metal feeder openings, on opposing sides of the tube, are connected via a phillips-head screw on one side and a nut on the other. The second time I tried to take the feeder apart for cleaning, the screw head stripped. So now seed pieces have gotten into the space between the polycarbonate seed tube and the metal base, they're turning black, and nothing I've tried [soaking, turning faucet on full force, using a metal skewer to try to create a bit of space between base and tube ... etc] has worked. I paid nearly $30 for this feeder and am really disappointed. Suggestions?

This has worked great so far! We had a very pesky and smart squirrel that destroyed a couple of other bird-feeding options we tried, so we are very happy with this feeder! The birds can get to the food easily, and the squirrel quickly realized he wasnt getting in it and gave up. Thank you! (Update to my 11/10/16 review) This is NOT squirrel-proof, by any means, as in the incredibly persistent squirrels have since had little difficulty in getting the food out. However, the feeder has taken considerable abuse by the squirrels and still is in great condition. There are visible claw and teeth marks, but the feeder wont be going anywhere. Fortunately we seem to have devised a very effective and cheap modification to the feeder to proof it and keep our (mostly) finches happy. Thanks again!
Hello Thomas, Thank you for contacting Droll Yankees. Squirrels are so clever and relentless and it seems sometimes that theyre smarter than most other animals. One of the biggest challenges to feeding wild birdsour own challenge toois deterring squirrels. We work on a daily basis to create quality products and cultivate good advice that will help us all win this fight. Although this feeder is not squirrel-proof, I can offer some general squirrel-proofing tips. The key to successfully keeping a feeder squirrel-proof is its placement. Squirrels are agile and are able to jump up to 8ft horizontally and 4ft vertically. For this reason, we recommend that feeders be placed 8ft away from any structures that they can climb on so that they do not reach across to access the feeding holes. It can be helpful to trim back and prune any nearby bushes or branches within 12ft of a feeder. We also recommend that feeders be placed higher than 4ft off the ground, preventing the squirrels from jumping and grabbing onto the bottom. If you are using a hook or pole, we recommend that the hook have at least a 16in distance from the pole. Placing a baffle on the pole or having a caged feeder will also help to ensure squirrel-proofing success. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please call our Customer Service Department at 1-800-352-9164 and any one of our Customer Service Reps will be happy to assist you. Our hours are 7:30 am 4:30 pm Mon-Thurs & 7:30 am 2 pm Fri (EST). We hope this helps you get back to feeding birds, not squirrels!
