A tray is definitely needed but it should be a bit larger - say 24 inches in diameter. I still have a net underneath the tray that is 24 inches across - that I was using before I got the tray - and it still captures a fair amount of seed. I was hoping that I could abandon the net but it does not seem so?

My Classic B-Series Silver Sunflower Bird Feeder, 2.5 lb capacity, is not complete without the seed tray.
Ordered bird feeder and seed tray in November as a Christmas gift for my mother, seed tray made it AFTER Christmas and the bird feeder is still showing as stuck in a USPS warehouse as of Dec 5th and on the way to its next destination. Maybe my elderly mother will have her bird feeder by Christmas 2021 and then I'll be able to tell you whether the Omni Seed Tray is worth anything. Here's an idea: Don't use USPS as your shipping vendor!

We’re just beginning to use it, so it’s to early to write a review. But we are pleased by its clever, functional design. We were not pleased by the delivery system: The promised notification-of-shipment never showed up, so the feeder arrived unannounced at the end of 10 days. It would’ve been nice to know that it was coming
