Cleaning: Please! For the sake of the birds, keep your feeder clean! Dirty feeders spread disease. We recommend disinfecting your bird feeders once a month in winter and more often in hot and humid weather. Soak all parts in a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water. Use a bird feeder brush to brush away grime inside the tube. Then remove any hardware and clean with a solution of mild soap and water, rinsing thoroughly. Refill when completely dry.
2 Year Manufacturing Warranty: Register your product online here. Once you register, the Forever Promise covers all feeders, accessories and components from manufacturing and materials defects for 2 years or 24 months from date of purchase. Droll Yankees will repair or replace, at its discretion, any manufacturing defect in these products free of charge. The Forever Promise does not cover damage through normal wear and tear, weather, or bear, raccoon or other animal damage.
Lifetime Squirrel-Damage Warranty: If your feeder is badly damaged by squirrels, to the extent that the effectiveness of the feeder is compromised, The Forever Promise also includes a lifetime warranty against squirrel-damage on all our products.
Birds That Use This Feeder
Type Of Feed
Beautiful design and I like the cleaning convenience. Looks like all the birds like it too. Also like the size--don't have to fill it every day!
The onyx withe the metal top is the best feeder in the world... I hope the springloaded one never comes back... It was verry cheap...
I have this feeder and I completely agree with the above reviewers -- the perches are too short. I took the tray off because it works too well for doves and grackles and I want those to eat on the ground. I'm thinking the perches on CJM23B would be a good between solution.
Well-made feeders, good capacity and will be easy to clean. I ordered two and am very happy with them. Birds took to them quickly. I've ordered seed trays for each to help larger birds access them.
I just read Judy's review and I agree fully with her comments. I have 4 Onyx Clever Clean feeders and I was thinking the same thing about this bird feeder. The quick detach bottom is excellent, but the perches are too short. They need to extend out farther to allow for the cardinals to feed easily. The cardinals currently struggle to stay on the perch while feeding. Sure, extending the perch may attract some undesirable birds, but that is OK. Cardinal fans can deal with it. It would be great to have them relax and enjoy their seeds. Everyone would be happier. Please, Droll Yankee, give this idea fair assessment.
Hello, Dennis! Thank you for the suggestion. This tubular seed feeder is designed for songbirds of all sizes and kinds however, ground birds like cardinals prefer the sure footing of a platform or tray. Rather than extending the perches, I would recommend that you add a seed tray. Seed trays act like a platform for birds to stand on. Plus you can save money buy catching the spilled seed. We have created a seed tray called the Onyx Clever Clean Seed Tray that allows the tray to remain on the base of the Onyx feeder when removing the base for cleaning. I hope this helps you with your Cardinals.
