Cleaning: Please! For the sake of the birds, keep your feeder clean! Dirty feeders spread disease. We recommend disinfecting your nectar feeders every three to five days, or more frequently if you notice your nectar has become cloudy. Soak all parts in a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water. Use a bird feeder brush to brush away grime inside the feeder.

    Love the feeder, except...

I bought 2 of these feeders for my wife. Love the look and function of the feeder. Easy to clean and fill, however... When you wash the outside of the glass the red comes off. The glass is not tinted red, they are painted/stained. We hand-washed the feeder prior to first use and we were very disappointed when the red washed off the glass. As you can see from the picture, not sure how much longer the red will last. Other than that they are great. Hummingbirds love them.

question on how humming birds get the nectar

newly purchased hummingbird feeder--question--how can I tell that it's "working"---that it is/will dispense the nectar? I tried tapping on the feeder holes after putting in nectar for the first time and it seems dry....thanks.

Hi Joseph, Thank you for your question regarding the the More Birds Vintage Hummingbird Feeder with Antique Glass Bottle. First, we want to welcome you to the world of feeding the hummingbirds! We have a great article titled, "How Do Hummingbirds Eat" on our website and you can find it here: https://morebirds.com/blogs/news/how-do-hummingbirds-eat?_pos=40&_sid=f8fa62757&_ss=r. We hope this article helps! You can tell the feeder is working when the hummingbirds arrive and feed at it and the level of nectar in the bottle will go down. The nectar should not come out of the ports, as the hummingbirds tongues go inside to drink. If you have any other questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service Team at 1-800-352-9164. Thank you for flying with our flock!

    Best hummingbird feeder

We had another brand that was pretty, but it has a “fatal” flaw: “treated” metal base that corrodes and rusts. Just discovered this brand and it looks great with plastic base. Very pleased. Highly recommend.

    Place in shade

My neighibor has this feeder, in summer it was getting up to 110 F. I was changing the nectar and it burned me not to mention had turned to wine. In heat 3 days before changing and shade so hummers don't get burning wine...

Hi Joanne, Thank you for your review of the More Birds Vintage Hummingbird Feeder. Yes, summer months, depending on what region of the country you live in, can get quite hot! Shade keeps us all cooler during the hot summer months. Hanging your hummingbird feeders in shaded areas has several potential benefits. Shaded nectar will stay cooler resulting in slower fermentation. Fermented nectar spoils, posing a danger to feeding hummingbirds. The shade will also help keep bees away as bees typically feed in full sunlight, hence why you will see them flying from flower to flower in the bright sunshine. Shadier spots will be less attractive to bees. You will want to make sure to clean your feeder twice a week during hot weather, to make sure the feeder and contents are safe for the hummingbirds. If you have any other questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service Team at 1-800-352-9164. Thank you for flying with our flock!

Got my first hummingbird visitor in just a few minutes

I have a lot of hummingbirds around the yard from another feeder, but I'm glad to see this one already attracting their attention. One concern I had from the listing was about how easy it would be to clean out the base, but it comes apart in two pieces so that you can thoroughly clean inside. The glass bottle did have a small chip on its mouth, but that does not affect the functioning or appearance.
