Placement to deter squirrels: The key to keeping a feeder successfully squirrel-proofed is the placement. Place a bird feeder 4 feet from the ground and 8 feet from anything a squirrel can jump from. When hanging from a pole by a hook, it is recommended that the hook have at least a 16” distance from the pole. Placing a baffle on the pole or having a caged feeder will also help to ensure squirrel-proof success.
Cleaning: Dirty bird feeders spread disease. We recommend cleaning your feeders weekly, or monthly at a minimum. Clean your feeders outdoors with a large bucket, and always wear gloves when cleaning. Soak your feeder in a 9:1 solution of water and bleach for 15 minutes. Then use a bird feeder brush to scrub the feeder with dish soap and water. Refill when completely dry.
Birds That Use This Feeder
Type Of Feed
I ordered this feeder on May 10, 2021. On May 18, I received a little metal screw top, with a metal ring, in a brown envelope. That's it. No feeder. I immediately called the company, and talked to someone named Desiree at Consumer Services. She asked me to email a picture of what I received, which I did. Desiree assured me that she would be in touch with the warehouse the next day, and would email me when my feeder was on the way. Two days later, I emailed again. Nothing. I was assured again via email my feeder would be on the way soon. Today is May 25. Still nothing, no communication from the company. I am going to call tomorrow and ask for a refund. Ridiculous. Buyer beware!

The spaces between the metal aren’t large enough for most small birds. Only tiny ones fit inside the cage. Big birds can hang off the feeder and get seed from the tray. When big birds are there, the little birds can’t feed out of fear. The spaces should be a bit bigger and perhaps eliminate the tray or make it smaller where big birds can’t reach. The metal on this feeder is quite cheap.

I’ve had this feeder up for over week and all the finches, chickadees, grosbeak and even sparrows won’t go in or near it. Starlings and common grackles cling to the cage and stick head through bottom of cage and eat...haha might as well just have a baffle and open feeder. Should rename squirrel and song bird X.
Hi Mike, We are sorry to hear that the smaller song birds are not coming to the feeder. It is most likely due to these other larger birds accessing it. Have you tried changing the seed you offer to safflower? This is not a favorite of grackles or starlings, and may help deter them so the other birds can give the feeder a try. It can take birds, sometimes weeks to get used to anything new in the yard. We hope changing the seed helps!
