Placement to deter squirrels: The key to keeping a bird feeder successfully squirrel-proofed is the placement. Place your bird feeder 4 feet from the ground and 8 feet from anything a squirrel can jump from. When hanging from a pole by a hook, it is recommended that the hook have at least a 16” distance from the pole. Placing a baffle on the pole or having a caged feeder will also help to ensure squirrel-proof success.
Cleaning: Dirty bird feeders spread disease. We recommend cleaning your feeders weekly, or monthly at a minimum. Do not put your feeder in the dishwasher as the high temperatures can permanently damage the feeder parts. Clean your feeders outdoors with a large bucket, and always wear gloves when cleaning. Soak your feeder in a 9:1 solution of water and bleach for 15 minutes. Then use a bird feeder brush to scrub the feeder with dish soap and water. Refill when completely dry.
Birds That Use This Feeder
Type Of Feed
So good we bought a second one
Really helps keep the big birds like crows and blue jays away while allowing most of the pretty smaller birds enjoy. Unlike other models the bottom helps keep some of the mess out of the garden. Really worth the slightly higher price.
Squirrel X Feeder
It is a great feeder, right size and the small birds (Lesser Goldfinches, House Finches) really like it. Love the cage and tray included with it.
More birds was the only location I could find replacement parts as well as an excellent selection of feeders and accessories.
Best bird feeder ever made!
I already had this bird feeder for 4 years, after I stole it from my boyfriend who had it for 4+ years. I was thrilled to find it and bought us both a brand new one. Mind you he made some adjustments to the birdfeeder just like he did with the first one which makes all the difference. You will not find another bird feeder like this and with the modifications it is beyond perfect. Read on for the setup. Two important modifications. First thing he cut out two doors in the cage with a wire cutter. Genius! I used a small Drip Irrigation hose to make guards for the sharp cut ends. Small birds can get through the cage but my Cardinals can’t or won’t so these doors are essential! Second he drilled some larger holes in the base for water drainage because the small holes are not big enough. If it doesn’t drain properly it will rust and also get really gross. To deter squirrels I have it hanging on a pole far enough from the trees and also use a squirrel baffle. I put a regular bird feeder hanging from the tree with corn in it for the squirrels to eat so they do not pay any attention at all to this bird feeder. The cage around this bird feeder keeps the big birds from harassing the little birds, especially the crows - I have a lot of crows! And the deer can’t get in it. They eat everything! Note that this time he put two doors close together on the front so when it is hanging I can see the birds going in and out. Before there was one door in the front and one in the back. We’ll see if this modification makes any difference but he can always put another door in the back. We probably will have to put another door in the back because the birds like to fly from the tree behind it straight into the birdfeeder. Every situation will be different. So you could start with one door and work from there but I think two doors are ideal so they can go in one door and out of the other. LOL I am including photos of the old one and the new one, he painted it a few times with rustoleum over the years. To have a bird feeder that lasts eight years is definitely a quality feeder. My bf has been through at least six other bird feeders since he gave this to me and whines about it constantly. LOL So glad I found this bird feeder here, I have been looking for it for years! I also received a fantastic coupon and I thought delivery was pretty quick. :)

NO BIRDFEEDER YET!
I ordered this feeder on May 10, 2021. On May 18, I received a little metal screw top, with a metal ring, in a brown envelope. That's it. No feeder. I immediately called the company, and talked to someone named Desiree at Consumer Services. She asked me to email a picture of what I received, which I did. Desiree assured me that she would be in touch with the warehouse the next day, and would email me when my feeder was on the way. Two days later, I emailed again. Nothing. I was assured again via email my feeder would be on the way soon. Today is May 25. Still nothing, no communication from the company. I am going to call tomorrow and ask for a refund. Ridiculous. Buyer beware!
