Placement to deter squirrels: The key to keeping a feeder successfully squirrel-proofed is the placement. Place a bird feeder 4 feet from the ground and 8 feet from anything a squirrel can jump from. When hanging from a pole by a hook, it is recommended that the hook have at least a 16” distance from the pole. Placing a baffle on the pole or having a caged feeder will also help to ensure squirrel-proof success.
Cleaning: Dirty bird feeders spread disease. We recommend cleaning your feeders weekly, or monthly at a minimum. Clean your feeders outdoors with a large bucket, and always wear gloves when cleaning. Soak your feeder in a 9:1 solution of water and bleach for 15 minutes. Then use a bird feeder brush to scrub the feeder with dish soap and water. Refill when completely dry.

The squirrel got it open in no time, rubber stopper didn't work. I tried twist ties but as the photos show that didn't work. The top came apart. This happened in less than a week.

Love the overall look but the design could have been more thoughtful. Squirrel resistant but no more than that. They chewed through the “locking mechanism” on the first day because it’s just a rubber washer and were able to chew up the top part of the tube. It’s also effectively impossible to clean well. I had to completely take the cage apart and find a new way to keep it together so that I can take everything apart to clean it well. It does keep the squirrels out aside from that

It was fun watching the gray trying to get into it. Finally gave up.
Squirrels are clever little creatures. I've tried numerous bird feeders to keep the squirrels at bay. This one is so simple and works very well. The squirrels, used to their breakfast/lunch/dinner trips to my feeders, grow increasingly frustrated climbing up over around this new piece of playground equipment. (Perhaps I'm projecting.) I've ordered a second of this model to replace my other feeder.
